What do we ethnolinguists study?

Abstract

When we speak of Social Science we are referring to a science whose center is man in his different planes (individual, social, cultural) observable in a given state or through time; to that man who possesses the capacity for language as a distinctive faculty from the rest of living beings, a capacity that allows him to generate symbolic and communicative systems. Taking language as an object of study broadens the linguistic perspective towards the field of semiotics, surpassing the conception of linguistics as the mere description of languages.
